No. The HOV 2+ lanes that are adjacent to general highway corridors in North Texas are currently free to drivers with at least one additional passenger during their hours of operation.

When driving on the tolled LBJ TEXpress Lanes within I-635 and a portion of I-35E in Dallas County, drivers with at least one additional passenger may use the Drive On TEXpress online or mobile platform (app is available in early 2014) to activate their HOV status and enjoy a 50% discount on toll rates during weekday rush-hour periods. These TEXpress Lanes HOV discounts are available for carpools and motorcycles under certain conditions.

The Drive On TEXpress platform (www.DriveOnTEXpress.com) was created to provide easy-to-access planning tools and special discounts to TEXpress Lanes drivers in North Texas:

  • HOV, motorcycles and carpool drivers who use any TEXpress Lanes throughout North Texas are eligible for a 50% discount during weekday rush hours
    • This discount can only be obtained by using the Drive On TEXpress app (available in early 2014) or online version in conjunction with a valid TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG.
    • Drivers must activate their HOV status at least 15 minutes prior to entering the TEXpress Lanes.
  • Any North Texas driver who downloads the Drive On TEXpress app (available in early 2014) or goes to DriveOnTEXpress.com can register to receive a variety of promotional discounts for the LBJ and NTE TEXpress Lanes:
    • Offers are exclusive to Drive On TEXpress users

Anyone can access the platform through the www.driveontexpress.com website.

The Drive On TEXpress website and app is being developed to encourage carpooling on the new TEXpress Lanes and provide drivers with easy access to various features and discounts available on DriveOnTEXpress.com through the use of their phones or tablets. The app will be available in early 2014.
The app is being developed by CTS, with funding from LBJ Infrastructure Group LLC (LBJ Express and LBJ TEXpress Lanes) and NTE Mobility Partners LLC (North Tarrant Express and NTE TEXpress Lanes).
The app will be designed to run on smartphones (both Androids and iPhones, as well as desktop, laptop and tablet computers. It is not available for BlackBerry phones.
The Drive On TEXpress app will not be available until early 2014. Once it launches, you can access it via DriveOnTEXpress.com or download it from Apple iTunes, the App Store or Google Play. If you don't have a smartphone, you can use the online version to sign up for both HOV and promotional discounts.
No. HOV 2+ discounts are available:
  • During weekday rush-hour periods only
    • 6:30 to 9:00 a.m. , Monday through Friday
    • 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. , Monday through Friday
  • Only to drivers with valid TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG accounts who have pre-registered to use the TEXpress Lanes through the mobile app or website, and;
  • Only to drivers who have activated their HOV status through Drive On TEXpress at least 15 minutes prior to entering the TEXpress Lanes.

During -rush hour periods, drivers pay the non-discounted toll rate, regardless of how many passengers are in their vehicle.

Drivers who have invalid TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG accounts (for example, the account falls into a negative balance) are not eligible for HOV discounts. Instead, they will be charged the ZipCash price, which is approximately 50% higher than the base toll rate, due to administrative and collection fees. This is consistent with policies on other toll roads in North Texas.

Once you have accessed the Drive On TEXpress website or downloaded the Drive On TEXpress app on your device (available in early 2014), you will be prompted to register your vehicle's license plate information and valid TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG number, as well as your basic contact information, which will be used (unless you opt-out) for notifications on your HOV discount status.

Please note that to create an account, your tag number should match the license plate that your toll services provider (NTTA, TxDOT or HCTRA) has on record. Please contact your tag provider if you receive an error message that indicates a discrepancy.

After you have created an account and logged in, you may activate your HOV status to receive discounts by clicking the "Activate My HOV Status Now" button in the HOV bar. This feature allows you to receive the 50% discount for each TEXpress Lanes tolling segment you drive during the HOV period displayed on your screen. The discount will automatically be applied to the account of the vehicle activated. Drivers must activate the HOV status at least 15 minutes before entering onto the TEXpress Lanes.

To cancel the HOV discount, simply click the HOV bar again, and your activation will be cancelled.

If you have more than one vehicle registered to your account, you have the option of changing which vehicle gets the applied discount. Click on the "Vehicles" button and select the active vehicle to receive your discount.

No. You can be a single occupant to qualify for any special promotional discounts which may pop up from time to time on your Drive On TEXpress screen. Only HOV drivers must have at least one passenger in their vehicle to qualify for HOV discounts, available during all rush hours.

Every now and then, you may be prompted to claim or decline a specific discount. To claim the discount, you will be asked to enable the discount on the screen. If you receive multiple discount alerts, you may select the one that best suits your preference. However, if you were to select more than one discount for a single transaction, the Drive On TEXpress system will calculate which one is the most economically favorable for you.

When you activate your HOV status or a promotional discount via the website or app (available in early 2014), you are sending our server a request to apply the discount to a pre-selected vehicle on your account. If you choose to receive notifications from Drive On TEXpress, you will receive an email or SMS confirmation that your request was successfully received. Then as you pass through one of the TEXpress Lanes toll gantries, a sensor applies your discount to your valid, pre-registered TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG account.

You can activate and cancel your HOV discounts by clicking on the "Activate My HOV Status Now" button in the HOV bar when you're ready to use the TEXpress Lanes.

In addition, you can pre-schedule your HOV activation when you know you'll be using the TEXpress Lanes and learn how to use the TEXpress Lanes to quickly get to a popular Dallas/Fort Worth destination. You'll also be able to see a log of past HOV activations and claimed discounts you have received on the TEXpress Lanes.

Yes. If you are a last-minute HOV or carpool driver, you can manually activate your HOV status at least 15 minutes before accessing the TEXpress Lanes using DriveOnTEXpress.com or your app (available in early 2014). If you are a regular carpool driver, you can pre-schedule your HOV activation up to 7 days in advance for one or multiple rush-hour periods with the HOV Schedule function. Drive On TEXpress is designed to be flexible so you can use it to pre-schedule all your discounts for the week at one time or activate your discounts with just a few minutes' notice.
Local law enforcement and cameras will be monitoring the TEXpress Lanes for compliance with HOV 2+ regulations. Once you activate your HOV status, you are essentially using the TEXpress Lanes as an HOV facility and you are responsible for the number of occupants in your vehicle. As is the case when you enter any other HOV lane facilities in the region, you are subject to fines if you operate your vehicle with fewer than the required number of passengers.
No, but if you have pre-scheduled your discount or HOV activation, there will be a reminder that you are scheduled or activated for the next HOV period, so that you can remember to cancel your status if you will not meet the minimum HOV requirements.

As part of Drive On TEXpress, you only have to provide a few contact details (email or cell phone and your zip code) to the Drive On TEXpress Lanes operators (LBJ Infrastructure Group and/or NTE Mobility Partners) in order to process tolls and receive your discounts and alerts. Other personal details are not mandatory. You will also be asked to provide your valid TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG ID and license plate number so that the tolling system can identify your vehicle (but not you personally) and check to see if you activate any discounts. That information will be kept confidential and not disclosed to any third parties without your consent.

You don't have to provide any financial information (i.e. bank account or credit card) to use Drive On TEXpress. Your toll service provider (NTTA, HCTRA or TXDOT) will retain any personal information you may have provided to them for applying the toll usage to your account. All TEXpress Lanes toll charges, including applicable discounts, will be billed through your existing toll service provider.

Yes, simply go to DriveOnTEXpress.com and follow the instructions to register for an account. You can then use the online version to activate or cancel your HOV status, and set up your account to receive other special promotional discounts.
Yes. Motorcyclists can receive the HOV 2+ 50% discount if they have a valid and properly-mounted TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG on their windshield (this is a requirement), register for a Drive On TEXpress account (download the app when it is available in early 2014) and enroll in the program, and then activate their HOV status at least 15 minutes prior to entering the TEXpress Lanes.
Drive On TEXpress is currently only applicable to the TEXpress Lanes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area . This includes any partial TEXpress Lanes segments open to traffic. When you first register, you are required to provide your:

  • Password and answer to a selected security question
  • Zip code
  • Vehicle license plate number and state
  • Your valid tag number and type of tag (TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG) corresponding to the license plate provided

All other information asked for is completely optional, and if you choose to provide it, you may do so at any time

No. If your TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG account falls into a negative balance, you are not eligible for an HOV or special promotional discount because your account is no longer valid. Your TEXpress Lanes use will automatically be converted to ZipCash billing and you will be invoiced via mail at the higher ZipCash rate, which is approximately 50% higher than the base toll rate, just as ZipCash rates are on other toll roads in the region.
If you plan to qualify for HOV or special promotional discounts while your vehicle has temporary (paper) plates, please following the steps:
  1. Update your TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG online account or contact the appropriate Customer Service Center with that information.
  2. Change the vehicle information on your Drive On TEXpress account by entering the temporary license plate number.
  3. Once permanent license plates are received, you must update your TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG account as well as your Drive On TEXpress account with the permanent information.
You can use the Drive On TEXpress platform at DriveOnTEXpress.com to pre-schedule your HOV discount beginning December 14, 2013, the day that Phase I of the LBJ TEXpress Lanes opens. The first HOV discount will be available during the Monday, December 16, 2013 rush hours.
